Herps
-
How do I add a Herp?
Open Herp, select Add Herp, choose a Species (required), enter the available details, and save.
-
How is a Herp ID generated?
HerpClutch generates a Herp ID automatically when you add a Herp. The code is derived from the Species, so the prefix depends on how that Species is configured.
-
Can I add my own Species?
Yes, where supported you can add a Species. Adding a Species requires a Category.
-
What Age values are available for a Herp?
Age can be set to Adult, Juvenile, or Baby. Age is a label you choose; HerpClutch does not calculate biological age.
-
Can I search Herps by Name, Species, or Tags?
Yes. You can search your Herps by Name, Species, and Tags.
-
What happens when I archive a Herp?
Archiving removes a Herp from your active list without permanently deleting it. Archived Herps can be found under Settings → Data & Storage → Archived Herps and restored later.
-
How do I restore an archived Herp?
Open Settings, then Data & Storage, then Archived Herps, select the Herp, and choose Restore. It returns to your active Herps list.
Clutches & Hatch Dates
-
How do I create a Clutch?
Open Clutch, select Add Clutch, choose the Species and parents, enter the Egg Count and Lay Date, review the hatch information, and save.
-
How is a Clutch ID generated?
HerpClutch generates a Clutch ID automatically. A Species/code and the year may contribute to the identifier, and sequence numbering is managed by the app.
-
Can I select one Female and multiple Males for a Clutch?
Yes. A Clutch can record one Female and, where supported, multiple Male parents, chosen from your Herp records.
-
How is Egg Count recorded?
You enter the Egg Count when creating or editing a Clutch. HerpClutch does not assess fertility or viability.
-
Can I edit a Clutch after creating it?
Yes. You can edit a Clutch's details. Changing the Lay Date or incubation information can affect the expected hatch calculations.
-
How is the Expected Hatch Date calculated?
HerpClutch uses the recorded Lay Date and the configured incubation period to calculate an Expected Hatch Date. It is a planning estimate; actual hatch timing can vary.
-
What is a Hatch Window?
A Hatch Window is an expected range of dates a Clutch may hatch within, based on configured minimum and maximum incubation values.
-
Are hatch dates guaranteed?
No. Expected hatch dates and Hatch Windows are planning estimates based on the information you record. Actual hatch timing may vary.
-
Can incubation settings be changed?
Incubation values are associated with the Species. Changing the Lay Date or the incubation information used by a Clutch can affect the expected hatch calculations.
-
How do Hatch Reminders work?
HerpClutch can use local reminders to notify you as an expected hatch period approaches, when notifications are enabled. Delivery depends on your device's notification permissions.
Labels
-
What is the difference between Standard and Compact labels?
Standard is the fuller layout and includes a QR Code. Compact is a centered layout with larger text and no QR Code. Both designs are available for Herp and Clutch labels.
-
Can I print Herp and Clutch labels?
Yes. Select Preview Label on a Herp or Clutch record, then print with your device's print dialog (System Print) or straight to a supported Brother label printer with Brother Direct Print.
-
What does the QR Code on a label do?
The QR Code connects a printed label back to the matching Herp or Clutch record inside HerpClutch, using a stable internal identifier. It does not open a public web page or access cloud data.
-
How do I get a label out of HerpClutch?
Select Preview Label on a Herp or Clutch record, choose the design and size, then print, download, or share the label from the Print Label screen.
Statistics
-
Where do I open Statistics?
Open Settings, then Features & Tools, then Statistics. Statistics is not in the bottom navigation.
-
What statistics are available?
Statistics show summary information about your Clutch and Herp records. The specific metrics are defined by the app.
Backup & Restore
-
How do I create a Backup?
Open Settings, then Data & Storage, then Backup & Restore, select Create Backup, and save the backup file somewhere safe.
-
How do I Restore a Backup?
Open Settings, then Data & Storage, then Backup & Restore, select Restore Backup, choose your backup file, and confirm. Restoring replaces the data currently on this device, so review the app's confirmation message before continuing.
-
Will restoring a backup replace my current data?
Yes. Restoring replaces the data currently on this device with the backup. Review the app's confirmation message before continuing, and keep a recent backup where your app allows it.
Settings
-
How do I add or manage Species?
Manage Species from Settings. Adding a Species requires a Category, and a Species may carry configuration such as incubation values.
-
How do Categories work?
Categories organize your Species. When you add a Species, it is associated with a Category.
-
How do I manage notifications?
Manage notifications in Settings. Notifications also depend on your device's operating-system notification permission for HerpClutch.
Troubleshooting
-
Why am I not receiving notifications?
Confirm notifications are enabled for HerpClutch in the app and allowed at your device's operating-system level. Delivery can be affected by device settings.
-
Why is my printer not connecting?
Confirm the printer is switched on and available to your device. For Brother Direct Print, make sure the printer and your device are on the same Wi-Fi network and the printer is selected on the Label Printer screen. Also check that the label size fits your label paper.
-
Why can't I add or access a photo?
Check that HerpClutch has permission to use the camera or your photo library, then try again.
-
What should I include when contacting Support?
