Printing Labels

Print Herp and Clutch labels with your device's print dialog or with Brother Direct Print.

You can print a label from any Herp or Clutch record.

  1. Open the Herp or Clutch and select Preview Label.
  2. Choose the Standard or Compact design, then select a label size.
  3. On the Print Label screen, check the label, the printer and the label paper, then select Print Label.

The Print Label screen can also Download or Share the label.

Two ways to print

  • System Print opens your device’s print dialog, where you choose the printer and the paper. HerpClutch prints this way unless you set up Brother Direct Print.
  • Brother Direct Print sends the label straight to a Brother label printer on the same Wi-Fi network as your device, with no print dialog. It currently supports the Brother QL-820NWB.

Set up Brother Direct Print

  1. Go to Settings → Features & Tools → Label Printer.
  2. Under Brother Direct Print, select Find Brother Printer. The printer must be switched on and on the same Wi-Fi network as your device. If it is not found, enter its address in Printer address and select Add.
  3. Select your printer. Labels now print straight to it.
  4. Select Check Loaded Media to see which label paper the printer reports.
  5. Under Compatible Label Paper, choose the paper you have loaded.

On Android, Brother Direct Print needs Android 8 or newer. If your device can’t use it, the Label Printer screen says so and HerpClutch prints with System Print.

If Brother Direct Print can’t print — for example, no printer is selected, or the printer reports different paper from the one you chose — HerpClutch tells you what to fix. It does not switch to the print dialog on its own. To print with System Print instead, choose System Print on the Label Printer screen.

Label paper

HerpClutch recommends Brother DK-1202 and DK-2205 label paper. DK-1201 is also supported.

  • DK-1202 die-cut labels — 62 × 100 mm labels.
  • DK-2205 62 mm continuous roll — 62 × 100, 62 × 40, or 62 × 29 mm labels.
  • DK-1201 die-cut labels — 29 × 90 mm labels.

If the paper you chose can’t carry the selected label size, the Print Label screen tells you which paper to load, or you can choose a different size.

Printer recommendation

For a dedicated label printer, HerpClutch recommends the Brother QL-820NWB.
